[2007/08/14] Become a Group’s Supporter
By public request *cough*, I added supporter mode to Ad Mates.
Your Preferences
have new knob to turn it on. It works like this: If you don’t care for credits — say you’re a popular site already *cough* *cough* — and just wish to support your group, the ads you show on your site don’t create negative credit for the ads’ owners. Likewise, you don’t gain any credit. If you do like this or don’t, please write in for your opinion.I guess I should have some feedback thing up here.
[2007/08/12] Statistics Update
I beefed up the statistics page. View- and click-counts are now aggregated by domain. This is much more useful (since less cluttery) information. Enjoy!
[2007/08/12] Public Service Ads
Finally and thanks to Joseph Bermann we now have a public service ad for the #macsb group. So if you run up to 1000 credits, your site starts to show this ad.
Every group now has a page that shows all the ads in that group and a first public service ad links back to that page. Check out the #macsb group page.
Public service ads have to be agreed upon for each group, so if you start a new one, make sure to tell me which one is the public service ad :-).
In the future a group founder will have an interface for these things.
If you like to see other public service ads, do let me know.
[2007/07/29] …forgot to mention
Members with negative credit were reset to 0.
[2007/07/29] Edit Your Ads — On admates.net
With the latest update you can now edit your ads. If you’ve chosen to show an ad on your site and that ad gets changed, the ad is automatically dropped from the ads on your site, so nobody can sneak an ad on our site that you don’t want there. If you’ve set your preferences to automatically add all ads to your site, this doesn’t happen. I still need to know how you’d like to receive updates when new ads arrive. rss, Mail, Jabber anything?
The format for links in your ad’s text changed from html to Markdown. The Help Section shows you how to do it. If you’ve had an ad with a link, I changed the format for you. No worries. As a result of this change (and as it was originally envisioned), you can’t have html-tags in your ad text anymore. Sorry.
Big news: The Ad network has been named “Ad Mates”. It is now available at http://admates.net. The old domain will continue to work, but if you want to be on the fancy side, change the domain in your scripts and bookmarks. There’s an ad for Ad Mates that gets shown every once in a while, even if you picked not to show this ad. Let me know if this annoys you.
You can’t get more than 1000 credits as of today. If you reached the 1000, you continue to serve ads, but you don’t gain more credit and more importantly, you don’t cause negative credit on smaller sites. This is due to iusethis spanking everybody in ad-views. If you see a problem with this scheme, please let me know.
And the last one: If you lost your password, you can request to reset it. You’ll be sent a mail with a special link that you have to click on to get on the preferences page where you can change your password.
[2007/07/19] Stats!
Yay,! We have advanced statistics now. You can see on which sites your ads got served and on which sites your stats got clicked on.
Unfortunately, I’ve been collecting that data for a couple of days only, so it doesn’t correlate with the other stats. But once I’ve figured all the things about stats out, everything will be reset to 0 and all will be fine.
If you’re using Mint (2.x) for your site’s stats, you can download the Community Advertising Pepper. Extract it to your your pepper directory. Go to Mint’s preferences and to the “Pepper” pane. There, click on “Install”. Go back to the preferences, select the Community Ad Pepper and enter your Ad Server Id.
This is very bare. There’s no security going on and things may break. Your mileage may vary. Use at your own risk.
I’m just putting this out to get early feedback. Let me know if you like it — or not.
[2007/07/18] Minor Tweaks
I fixed a couple of layout issues and some other things. Your session should now last “forever” as in 32-bit Unix epoch forever. No annoying authorization requests anymore. Beware though, you should always log out when using a public computer, but you know that already anyway.
To reward those who show ads on prominent places on their website and presumably generating more clicks, every click now gains you 10 credit points.
[2007/07/12] Layout & Statistics
I tweaked the layout and colours a bit and I introduced a view-counter for your ads. You can see how many times your ad has been shown. Don’t worry about the low number, they are counted as of now.
[2007/07/11] Deactivate Ads & Auto-Add Ads
You can now deactivate ads that you don’t want to show for some time. Activating it again is just as easy.
You also can now specify in the preferences, if you’d like to automatically enable new ads on your site or not. This is off by default.
[2007/07/10] Change Passwords
You can now set your account passwords to something you prefer. Enjoy!
[2007/07/08] Rewrite
Woha, what I’ve been hacking on — on and off — for about a month was now redone in 3 days. With more features, a better design and Code Igniter in the background. Thanks to Pilky for having me dig into it.
As a result, you can now sign up yourself, create public and private groups and you can, of course, join public groups.
In the process, urls have been changed, but the old ones should still work. If you want to use the new ones, refer to the help section.
Cheers,
Jan
